We were all organised, car packed, ready and on the road at 9.00am!!! Very impressive!!!
Were on our next adventures to Sennen Cove, Cornwall then on to Bristol and a brief visit to Bath for a spa treatment.
The car was all iced over and the water in the windscreen washer was totally frozen!!! It took several miles for the windscreen washer liquid to melt!!!
We stopped off at Gordano services for a coffee on the way down around 11.00am, then for lunch at Lifton Farm Shop at 1.00pm. Lifton Farm Shop is a really lovely place, a little off the beaten track, but well worth it. Its been certified by Prince Charles in past years. Its far nicer than a roadside cafe or service station too.
As a child we always used to have a competition for the first person to see the sea!!! The first thing we look for is St Michael's Mount!!
We arrived at Sennen around 4pm after collecting a few supplies from Tesco. Dave and I unpacked the car, while Mum & Dad got organised inside with turning everything on etc. We then made our beds and got settled in for the night. I remember getting out the car and breathing in the fresh sea air that I remembered so well as a child. We always holidayed at Sennen in the school holidays, I have so many fond memories of this place.
Tuesday 30 December 2014
Up and at em at around 9.00am after a bit of a restless night. The day was spectacular, a lovely fresh 11 degrees with bright blue skies. A sturdy breakfast to get us started of a toasted oatcake wrap filled with bacon, egg and cheese... yum!! This is the view from our cottage.... pretty spectacular eh!!
Dad firstly drove us to Porthgwarra Cove, this is a really picturesque cove. It used to be a thriving fishing cove but only one boat goes out crabbing from here nowadays. Would have been used lots by smugglers in years gone by I bet!!
Dad then drove us around to Penberth Cove, again this is very picturesque with a gushing stream down to the sea, and stepping stones to pass over. Here you have to park then walk a little way down to the cove, passing along the way there's a gorgeous thatched cottage, chocolate box material!!

After viewing and mooching in the above two coves we had built up an appetite for a traditional Cornish pastie!! So we drove to St Just and bought one from McFadden's Quality Butchers and Bakers. My gosh it was delicious!!! We then washed it down with a pint, in The Star Inn, St Just. This is a real traditional Cornish pub, full of character, charm, low ceilings, a lovely roaring fire to greet us and very dog friendly too. Be very careful not to step on the dog as its black and so is the floor... they blend very well!!! Plus it takes your eyes a little time to adjust when entering!!
Once we were fed and watered we drove on to Cape Cornwall. Here we parked the car and walked around the hill top.
View from the car park to the chimney, which is where we were aiming for.
We left Mum and Dad at the bottom of the hill, as it was a bit too much for them to climb.
Dave and I carried on walking up the hill to the Coastguards lookout. Don was on watch, so we had a good ole chat to him about the service they provide. This lookout is manned voluntarily. Quite a solitary job but all very fascinating. Here's Dave checking out the ships on the horizon.
On from here we carried on walking up the hill to the chimney which dates back to 1864. At the top we nearly got blown away as the wind had really picked up!! Great views though.

After our walk we drove back to Sennen and visited Joyce for a good ole chat, a cuppa tea, glass of paddy's Irish whiskey and a piece of cake. I love reminiscing about all the old times with Joyce, Mum and Dad.
Wednesday 31 December 2014.... New Years Eve!!
Today Dave and I took off on our own and walked the cliff path from Sennen Cove to Lands End and on to the First and Last Pub for a pint and a pastie. Mum and Dad joined us at the pub and drove us back to Sennen, where they dropped us off at the top car park and so we could walk down to the beach and along the cove. I wanted to have a mooch in the round house shop for a little purchase. Then we made our way up Stone Chair back to the cottage. Stopping a few times on the way to admire the view!!!

In the evening we went to the Trewellard Meadery for dinner, which was truly scrumptious, as always. At the Meadery you eat with your fingers, just like medieval times... no knives and forks!! Its famous for its crispy chicken and chips and Mead wine.
After dinner Dad drove us to Mousehole so we could view the Christmas lights in and around the harbour. To our surprise there was hardly anyone around!!! We thought the streets would have been packed with New Year's revellers! Once we'd finished the light tour we then came home and watched the New Years show and London fireworks on the TV with a few drinks. Ahhh nice and relaxing.
Thursday 1 January 2015... New Years Day
Happy New Year everyone!!
A nice lazy start to the day. Once we were ready we drove to St Erth and caught the train to St Ives. Catching the train was a great idea and a really lovely way to arrive into St Ives as you get to see the views of the coast line on the way.
Unfortunately the weather was a grey overcast day, but dry which was good. Dad was making a few phones calls to his mates wishing them a Happy New Year, and one of them said his son Dave was in St Ives too!! Then Dad got a phone call from Dave so we caught up for a quick chat before we headed straight to the The Balancing Eel, for a yummy fish and chip lunch. Dave and I shared a seafood platter, nice to have a bit of everything.
After lunch Mum, Dave and I had a mooch around while Dad went off to The Lifeboat pub to watch Stoke City v Manchester United (surprise, surprise!!!). Final score 1 - 1, apparently Stoke should have won!!.
It was nice mooching around the cobbled lane ways and bays. Dave and I also walked to the top of the Island and checked out the Island chapel, St Nicholas Chapel, its a very quaint chapel where you can have a wedding blessing. Unfortunately there wasn't one being done when we were there. If there was the bride and groom would have been blown away as it was a howling gale, the wind nearly blew me over!!! It was windier than Wellington on top of the Island in St Ives and that is saying something!!!!
Time for a Cornish ice cream at Moomaid of Zennor Ice Cream Parlour.... it was totally devine!! I had vanilla bean and clotted cream... Dave had a Sea Salt Caramel and Clotted Cream. Naughty but nice!!
All in all it was a wonderful relaxing afternoon out in St Ives.
Later in the evening we popped down and had another catch up with Joyce and said our goodbyes, which is always sad. We then briefly had a quick drink in the Old Success Inn before we headed back to the cottage for an early night, as we had to be up early in the morning.
Friday 2 January 2015
Up early at 7.00am, packed up and cleaned the cottage and hit the road at 8.05am. Always sad to say goodbye to Sennen, its such a beautiful place. I always feel at peace there.
Were now on the way to Bristol to see my brother, his wife Sally, and my niece, Maria and nephew, Kristian. On the way we stopped off at Lifton Farmshop again for breakfast. Once again great service and the breakfast was very tasty and flavoursome. I would highly recommend a visit if your passing.
We arrived at Kev's at 12.30pm ish.... just in time for a cuppa and a quick catch up before Kev, Sally and Min dropped Dave and I into Bath so we could experience the hot pools and a hot oil massage at The Thermae Bath Spa. Wow what an experience!!! I couldn't get over how busy the spa was, but not surprised at all really, as it was a lovely place to chill out. When we arrived, the queue was out the door!! As we had pre-booked, months in advance, thankfully, Dave and I went straight to the pre-booked counter and bi-passed the huge queue... then a lady in the unbooked queue popped out and told us to get back in line!!! I had the pleasure in saying to her that we had already booked and were at the right counter!!!! When we left the queue was out the door and around the corner!!!
Unfortunately you weren't allowed to take photos inside so you will have to check out their website for what it looks like. This is a photo of the entrance.
Kev, Sally and Min were waiting for us as we came out... they then took us for a lovely walk through the streets of Bath looking at the Christmas lights and the weir under the Pulteney Bridge which was beautiful all lit up.
We then drove to The Sandringham pub just up the road from my brothers. As its a Friday, its Fizzy Friday for the girls, so Sally, Min and I just had to have a bottle of Prosecco between us!!! We got to meet Min's boyfriend, Matthew too which was nice. The pub had a lovely atmosphere, great for a local.
We then went back to my brother's for a yummy Spaghetti Bolognese dinner and another couple of bottles of Prosecco!!! Finished off with a glass of Limoncello.
Saturday 3 January 2015
A lazy morning start, with a yummy Austrian (Australian as Min & Kris used to say when they were little!!) breakfast, consisting of meats, cheeses and bread. Once we were ready, we set off in the car to have a look around Bristol. Unfortunately the weather was wet and miserable but we managed a bit of a walk around the Docklands. This was the first wet day we had experienced, so not doing to bad at all.
We popped into the M Shed, out of the wet, to check out the history of Bristol museum. Once having a good look around we then carried on walking along the docklands to the Bristol shop so I could buy a fridge magnet or two!!
Because it was so wet we decided to walk back to the car and drive around to have a quick look at the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Then on to Nandos for a late lunch, to check out where Min and Kris work. Never been to a Nandos previously, but will certainly be visiting them around the world again as the food was delicious.
After lunch we packed Kev's new car up and drove up to Mum and Dads. Min kindly caught the train, as there wasn't enough room in the one car. This way they could all return together.
We arrived safely in Kev's new car from Bristol. Min also arrived safely earlier on the train too.
Well what a interesting evening... very entertaining with everyone's point of view and Dad flicking between Darts and the Great British Bake Off show!!!!! Just like old times!!
Sunday 4 January 2015
We woke to a beautiful sunny morning, but very cold. We waited for my brother to turn up so we could all go for a walk around the lanes before we went off to celebrate Kev and Dad's birthday at The Mill at Worston. All the puddles were frozen up, that's how cold it was!!! We all had fun cracking the ice!!
Great lunch time celebrations. Now home for a chill out.
